Why do I need to see my Hygienist every 6 months?
Gingivitis (bleeding gums) and periodontitis (destruction of the bone that holds the teeth in their sockets) are diseases of the mouth that are caused by bacteria that stick to the teeth, under the gums, where your toothbrush can’t reach.
Sometimes strong, healthy teeth fall out because the gums and bone are unhealthy. Being cavity-free doesn’t mean your mouth is healthy. The gums and bone that support your teeth play a vital role in how long you keep your teeth…..which should be your whole life!
Gingivitis is reversible, but periodontitis is not. Once the bone is gone, it doesn’t grow back. In severe cases, this can lead to abscesses and loose teeth that can eventually fall out.
To ensure this doesn’t happen to you, make sure you keep your appointments with you Hygienist regular. Twice a year is recommended.
CLEAN teeth = lifelong healthy teeth!
